Health and Fitness Day One

Welcome back to the blog and back to class.  A very busy 6 or so weeks lies in front of us.

I have just returned from watching my son be fit and healthy at a swim meet.  Somehow I will be juggling Tuesday and Thursday night swim meets along with classes.  I used to be a swimmer too.  I love being in the pool.  Yes, back and forth, back and forth.  There is something therapeutic about being surrounded by water with only your thoughts.  Swimming is about bettering yourself.  It doesn't matter what place you come in, it matters if you swam faster than previously.  Recently I was swimming Masters.  Sort of gave it up as I focused on school.  Somehow I would like to work it back into my busy schedule.

The idea that struck me the most this morning in class, was trying to find ways as teachers to incorporate health and fitness into our curriculum.  I like this idea and will keep it in mind as I become a teacher.  I realize that my son's school is lucky; they have a health teacher and offer health to all grade levels.  I didn't realize until recently that this was unique to his school, even within his district.  It might be up to me to teach health.  And finding ways to work it in to the existing curriculum.
