What is it about this show? It keeps connecting to our journey into teaching. Giada told her team, "this is a journey into self exploration." We are doing the same. We are on a journey into teaching while they are on a journey into a television show. While these journeys may seem to be different, they are amazingly parallel.
Tonight one contestant talked about his past - a past in poverty. He was asked, "why is food important to you." He immigrated to the United States as a teenager with his mom and brother. Mom got remarried and had more kids. Getting food was difficult. Digging through garbage cans in search of food was his norm. Now he is a cook and striving to be a Food Network Star. Wow! Talk about a journey.
We see how past experiences form who we are. Remember that this happens for everyone. As I watch and listen, I think about how important it is to remember who we are. The events of our life have shaped today and impact tomorrow.
All I can say is embrace who you are. Fight for what you believe in. Be yourself.
