Tears For the Super Bowl

Okay, not actually for the Super Bowl but for what happened before it started....

I have watched the Super Bowl for decades!! Never have I been brought to tears as it started.  I wasn't alone.  The sidelines were filled with big burly football players with tears in their eyes too. And a coach held his daughter just a little bit closer, as 26 beautiful third and fourth grade students from Sandy Hook Elementary stood at mid-field and belted out a beautiful rendition of America the Beautiful.  I watched with tears streaming down my face.  Tears for their pain.  Tears for their survival. Tears for how tragedy brings us together.

My CT and I were just talking about the incident the other day.  She told me that the students had asked if she would have hidden them in the cabinets.  Unfortunately, sixth graders don't fit in cabinets or small bathrooms very well.  But as teachers, we would do whatever we can to protect our students.  Those innate Momma Bear and Pappa Bear instincts would take over.  I pray they never have to though.

Here's to you Sandy Hook Elementary and Newtown, CT!  May you find peace and hope in the future. We won't forget!
