Class vote for when an earned party would take place:
1) as soon as possible
2) save the party for Valentines Day.

Valentines Day won!
Quietly, one student's world began to implode.

It turns out that this student was not going to be at school that day and he really didn't want to miss the party. (Lucky him, he would be in Hawaii.) As he tried desperately not to burst into tears, the CT explained why he was so sad and someone said,
"Can we take another vote?"
The new vote was unanimous -- have the party as soon as possible!!!
Wow!!! How cool is that? This tells me a great deal about my new group of students. I am proud and honored to be part of their class. Clearly a strong community exists in this classroom. The best part.... I get to be a part of it for the rest of the school year.
