More Amazing Social Studies

If you didn't read my blog on November 7, 2012, you might want to read that one before this one, as they are connected..

I wasn't involved in this but it is so great that I wanted to share it with you.  My sixth grade class has been studying the American Revolution and the events that led up to it.  One day, they were told to bring pennies into class, which the students presumed were for a math lesson.  Instead they were informed that for everything they turned in they would be required to get a stamp on their paper and pay the teacher a penny.  No stamp?  No credit for the work.
Sound familiar?  A classroom Stamp Act.

During recess, a classroom discussion occurred.  The students were not happy.

The next day, the tax was raised to two pennies.  Now what?  What could they do?

A second meeting occurred at recess.  And get this.....A petition was drawn up and signed by the students...Save our Pennies...We don't want to pay....This petition has not been forgotten.  In fact, it hangs on the wall by the teacher's desk.

History is not boring.  If we don't study it, we are destined to repeat it.  How much more will the kids learn and remember, when they can get a taste of what it was like?  How people felt.  What led them to the decisions they made and how those decisions changed the world we live in today.

Bring history to life!!!!
