The one thing I have realized over the last several months is that it is critical to make your practice public. I have seen a teacher who doesn't want anyone in her room. Why not? It makes me, the student teacher, wonder what is wrong with her practice.
It is important to remember that as we go through this process we are all working towards the same goal as are our Cooperating Teachers and our Field Supervisors. The goal - for us to become high quality teachers. Observations are not about criticism. They are about opportunities for growth. We are all growing and we will continue to grow as we become teachers. Five years from now we will still be growing. 10 years from now we will still be growing. 15 years from we will still be growing. Let others in - they will make you a better teacher.
My blogs tend to be about things I am thinking about in the moment. Sometimes something that has happened during the school day that I want to share. Sometimes these moments are connected to others and about curriculum, sometimes they are about something I have seen in the classroom. I tend to focus on the things that have gone well as I would like to share those and hope that others are able to incorporate these events into their own thinking and classrooms.
On the areas of helping others grow.....this is something that comes to our cohort naturally. I have commented on a number of blogs across the cohort. I can't even begin to say how much I appreciate everyone in this group. We focus on the positive. We help each other. We share our fears and our sadness. We provide little bits of info that stretch each others thinking. Much of this is done verbally and not specifically in blog posts. Our professors have commented on how we are a different sort of cohort. They are correct. We are not adversaries. We are a family.
