Sex Ed Day

Is our Health and Fitness class really almost over?  Where has the time gone?  We have covered so much and yet there is still so much we could cover.

My group was up for micro-teaching today.  While nervous, we were excited to see how our lesson would go over and looked forward to the reaction from our classmates.

Having a now 10 year-old (as of yesterday) I am realizing these big sex conversations will shortly enter my house.  Oh can't by little boy stay longer for just a little longer.  The subject is never easy and it seems as if kids are experiencing sexual things much sooner than we did.  Or are they?  I have heard many parents get upset by the sex-ed curriculum being taught.  Is this because we (parents) want to control what our children hear?  If so, we (parents) might want to rethink this.  Our kids are going to hear about sex.  They are going to hear about drugs.  They are going to hear about alcohol.  We can't stop it.  I believe is is better to obtain this information from a knowledgeable adult rather than a sixth grade friend.  Knowledge is strength.

Glad everyone enjoyed the game.  Sorry, I really did think you were messing with us on the whole infection vs disease thing.  Personally, I prefer the term STD but that is just me.  But especially at the sixth grade age, a disease sounds a lot more scary than an infection.  I would think that fear alone might delay young experimentation.

Sex is a tricky topic but one we must face.....
