Everyone Doesn't Think Like You

Everyone doesn't think like you and that is okay.  Actually it is better than okay it is a good thing.

When we were younger, especially as teenagers, we had a tendency to want to think like others and to have others think like us because then we felt like we fit into the group.  Whatever that group might be.  As we got older, and hopefully wiser, we learned the benefits of having different opinions.  For a good healthy disagreement can take you to new place.  Make you think differently about things or help you to persuade someone else to think differently.  This can be a positive experience.

However, even as adults there are many that still want others to think like they do and will treat those who think differently as outsiders.  To them all I can say is, "your loss".  Oh, the things they will miss by being closed minded and only thinking there is one way to live, theirs.

Everyday I find myself reminding myself, "Everyone Doesn't Think Like You".  But it has become a positive mantra.  I do not wonder what is wrong with me or what is wrong with them.  Instead I listen.  Make my point. And move on.  The world would be a pretty stagnant place if everyone agreed with everyone else.  This falls under the category of always learning.  You do not have to always agree.  But when you disagree or have an alternate opinion don't shy away from speaking or listening.

  1. What a great mantra! I think the world would be a really boring place if we all thought alike. One of my favorite things about our cohort is how different we all are. It's part of what makes our discussions so great - we all have different stories, different backgrounds, and different beliefs, united together by our desire to be teachers.
